Engineered for Maximum Uptime and Reliability.

Coating aluminum presents a unique set of challenges, particularly in the pretreatment stage. A client in the architectural window and door frame market needed an electrophoresis coating production line to provide a durable primer for their aluminum extrusions. A standard zinc or iron phosphate process is not effective on aluminum. Leveraging our deep process knowledge, we designed a system with a specialized multi-stage pretreatment process using a chrome-free conversion coating specifically formulated for aluminum alloys. This created the perfect surface for the subsequent cathodic E-coat to form a tenacious bond. This specialized TIMS electrophoresis coating production line gave their products the robust foundation needed to withstand decades of outdoor exposure without peeling or blistering, a critical requirement in the architectural industry.

Compact Electrophoresis Production Line for Smaller Facilities

Not all manufacturing facilities have the space for a massive, automotive-style E-coat system. For these applications, a compact electrophoresis production line is the ideal solution. At TIMS, we design space-efficient systems, such as programmable hoist lines. Instead of a long, continuous conveyor, a hoist system uses an overhead crane to move parts between a series of tanks arranged in a tight footprint. This "smart batch" approach provides all the process control and quality benefits of a larger line but is perfectly suited for lower volume production or facilities where floor space is at a premium. This makes the superior protection of an electrophoresis production line accessible to a wider range of manufacturers.

The Integration of E-Coat with Powder and Liquid Topcoats

The most advanced finishing systems in the world often integrate multiple technologies. A state-of-the-art electrophoresis production line is frequently designed as the foundational first step in a complete "prime and topcoat" system. At TIMS, we specialize in designing fully integrated lines where parts are seamlessly transported from the E-coat curing oven directly into a powder coating or liquid spray booth for the final decorative topcoat. This integration ensures the primer is perfectly clean and ready for topcoating, leading to superior inter-coat adhesion. By designing the entire process, from E-coat primer to final topcoat, as a single, synchronized electrophoresis production line, we can deliver the ultimate in finish quality, durability, and aesthetic appeal.

Conveyorized Line vs. Hoist Line for E-Coating

When choosing an electrophoresis production line, a key decision is between a continuous conveyorized line and a hoist-based (or batch) line. A conveyorized line is ideal for high-volume production of similar parts, offering maximum throughput and efficiency. A hoist line is better suited for lower volumes or a high mix of different parts. It offers greater flexibility, as each carrier can have its own custom process recipe (e.g., different immersion times or voltages). A hoist line is also generally more compact. TIMS has extensive experience in designing both types of electrophoresis production line and can engineer the optimal solution based on your specific production needs.

What is the Process Flow of an Electrophoresis Production Line?

The process flow of an electrophoresis production line is a highly controlled, sequential journey. It begins with loading parts onto a conveyor system. The parts then enter a multi-stage pretreatment tunnel, where they are sprayed or dipped in a series of cleaning, rinsing, and conversion coating tanks. After pretreatment, they enter the main E-coat tank, where they are submerged and electrically charged to deposit the paint. Following deposition, the parts go through several post-rinse stages to recover excess paint and ensure a clean surface. Finally, they travel through a large curing oven, where the coating is baked at high temperatures to cross-link and harden into its final durable film, before being unloaded from the line.

User Reviews

What users say about TIMS COATING

Frequently Asked Question

Do you have any question?

A complete electrophoresis production line is comprised of four main zones: 1. A multi-stage pretreatment section for cleaning and applying a conversion coating. 2. The core E-coat tank where the electrical deposition process occurs. 3. A series of post-rinse tanks that recover unused paint and prepare the part for curing. 4. A high-temperature oven to bake and cure the coating into a hard, durable film.

The footprint of an electrophoresis production line varies greatly depending on the size of the parts and the desired production rate (jobs per hour). A compact, hoist-operated "smart batch" line can be designed for smaller spaces, while a high-volume, conveyorized line for automotive bodies can be very large. TIMS specializes in creating space-efficient layouts for any facility.

Designing and installing a custom electrophoresis production line is a major project, typically taking several months from final design approval to full commissioning. The timeline depends on the system's complexity. Our dedicated project management team works closely with clients to establish a clear timeline and ensure a smooth, on-schedule installation.

In some cases, a "brownfield" installation is possible. While the core E-coat tank and pretreatment systems are unique, it may be possible to utilize or modify existing conveyors or curing ovens. Our engineering team can perform a thorough audit of your current facility to determine the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of converting it into an electrophoresis production line.

Modern systems are highly automated. A TIMS electrophoresis production line features automated chemical monitoring and dosing in the pretreatment tanks, computer-controlled rectifiers for the coating process, and intelligent PLCs that manage conveyor speeds, oven temperatures, and the entire workflow. This ensures process consistency, quality, and safety.

A "turnkey" solution means that TIMS acts as your single partner responsible for the entire project. We handle the complete design, fabrication, installation, startup, and training for your electrophoresis production line. This simplifies the process for you, ensuring all components work together seamlessly and the project is delivered ready for production.
