Coating aluminum presents a unique set of challenges, particularly in the pretreatment stage. A client in the architectural window and door frame market needed an electrophoresis coating production line to provide a durable primer for their aluminum extrusions. A standard zinc or iron phosphate process is not effective on aluminum. Leveraging our deep process knowledge, we designed a system with a specialized multi-stage pretreatment process using a chrome-free conversion coating specifically formulated for aluminum alloys. This created the perfect surface for the subsequent cathodic E-coat to form a tenacious bond. This specialized TIMS electrophoresis coating production line gave their products the robust foundation needed to withstand decades of outdoor exposure without peeling or blistering, a critical requirement in the architectural industry.
